Evaluation of the Envisat-aatsr Land Surface Temperature Algorithm with Ground Measurements in the Valencia Test Site

چکیده
RESUME In this work we describe the validation of the land surface temperature (LST) product derived from the Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR). A test site was established in a large, flat and homogeneous area of rice crops close to Valencia, Spain. Coincidentally to the Envisat morning overpasses, radiometric temperatures were measured along transects covering the area of one AATSR pixel (1 km) during the summers of 2002-04. Four thermal radiometers were used, which were calibrated and intercompared through the campaigns. Radiometric temperatures were corrected for emissivity effects using field emissivity and downwelling sky radiance measurements. Coincident AATSR data (L1b and LST product) are currently available for five days in 2002. For these scenes, a comparison was made between the ground measurements and the collocated AATSR LST product and other split-window algorithms as well. Results show a good agreement between groundmeasured and satellite derived LSTs, with maximum differences of ±1 oC, and standard deviation of ±0.8 oC.

Ground Measurements for the Validation of Land Surface Temperatures Derived from AATSR and MODIS Data
An experimental site was set up in a large, flat and homogeneous area of rice crops for the validation of satellite derived land surface temperature (LST). Experimental campaigns were held in the summers of 2002-04, when rice crops show full vegetation cover. LSTs were measured radiometrically along transects covering an area of 1 km. A total number of four thermal radiometers were used, which ...
متن کاملValidation of the Aatsr Land Surface Temperature Product over Inland Waters and Vegetated Surfaces
The Land Surface Temperature (LST) product of AATSR was validated with in situ measurements at two thermally homogeneous sites: Lake Tahoe, CA/NV, USA and a large rice field close to Valencia, Spain. The AATSR LST product is based on the split-window technique using the nadir view of the 11 and 12 μm channels. The algorithm coefficients are provided for 13 different land cover classes plus one ...
متن کاملSimulation and validation of land surface temperature algorithms for MODIS and AATSR data
A database of global, cloud-free, atmospheric radiosounding profiles was compiled with the aim of simulating radiometric measurements from satellite-borne sensors in the thermal infrared. The objective of the simulation was to use Terra/Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Envisat/Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) data to generate split-window (SW) and dual-a...
متن کاملEstimation of the Total Atmospheric Water Vapor Content and Land Surface Temperature Based on AATSR Thermal Data
The total atmospheric water vapor content (TAWV) and land surfacetemperature (LST) play important roles in meteorology, hydrology, ecology and some otherdisciplines. In this paper, the ENVISAT/AATSR (The Advanced Along-Track ScanningRadiometer) thermal data are used to estimate the TAWV and LST over the Loess Plateauin China by using a practical split window algorithm. The distribution of the T...
متن کاملComparison of Some Split-window Algorithms to Estimate Land Surface Temperature from AVHRR Data in Southeastern Tehran,
Land surface temperature (LST) is a significant parameter for many applications. Many studies have proposedvarious algorithms, such as the split-window method, for retrieving surface temperatures from two spectrallyadjacent thermal infrared bands of satellite data. Each algorithm is developed for a limited study area andapplication. In this paper, as part of developing an optimal split-window m...
